100 Boston Artists
“100 Boston Artists, like 100 Boston Painters, is designed to promote the understanding and appreciation of Boston art. Why Boston? Boston welcomed me when I emigrated from Lebanon in1981. It is a place I call home, a city where I lived as long as I have in my city of birth, Zahle. Massachusetts College of Art and Design provided my first academic art training. I was fortunate to study with inspiring artists whose passionate teaching awakened my spirit to the meaning and value of finding one’s raison d’être in one’s work.
I strived to give the book an objective, scholarly substance and value by seeking the nominations of seasoned professionals respected and acknowledged for their contributions in the Boston art scene. Recommendations from esteemed arts professionals, museum and university directors, gallery dealers, art critics, art teachers, and established artists served as the starting point for months of inquiry and research into artists with a wide ranging visions, media, directions, and different levels of development and recognition. There is no claim that these are the most acknowledged artists in Boston. As a matter of fact I feel honored to include in this book a diverse array of artists with wide range of reputation, from the known and famous to the obscure and the hidden.” Chawky Frenn
